Liable to be changed at any time. Check back frequently or notice when I appear in the Cbox and yell at everyone that a new rule has been added.
General
Trolls and people who spread hate or start flame wars will be demoted and banned for some time without any exceptions.
Show respect and follow the rules (not just in this thread, but for all rules you see) -- it doesn't matter if you're an administrator or a member. There are no exceptions.
No unsolicited advertising. This can take the form of PMing people to join your forum, advertising on the Cbox (not counting a link in your name [unless it's so blatantly obvious you're advertising with it that we'll warn you anyway unless you manage to come across as clever somehow]), or simply making a thread in the forums (besides in the Advertise/Affiliate sub-board). You can talk about your crazy awesome site if you want—that's cool. You can also give someone the link to your site in a PM if they request the link or link to it in your signature. Sometimes we'll even allow sharing a link everyone is interested in in the Cbox. Otherwise, it's advertising, and, thereupon, is against the rules.
Do not plagiarize or you are lame.
Things that happen outside of Torrenta are out of the staff’s jurisdiction. If your friend happened to start up a fight with you on MSN and they're on Torrenta, then we can’t do a single thing about it. If they get a log of the conversation and you prove to be a tactless asshole, however, your social relations and chances at being accepted as a staff member may be somewhat jeopardized.
Do not create multiple accounts.
Spell check is cool.
Respect other member’s property; this includes, but is not limited to: artwork; stories; role playing posts.
Try not to double post. Use the Modify button.
The Torrenta Region is a role playing site for traning and coordinating only. You can play as a human or a Pokémorph, even another humanoid creature, but not as a Pokémon. You may not start role playing with Pokémon characters; the aim is to work through Torrenta like you would one of the Pokémon games. Please don't ask us to include Pokémon characters for play because the answer is no and it will always be no. No, I am not sorry.
Try and break out of your comfort zone. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with someone. Torrenta is generally friendly when the members aren't making fun of each other.
Characters
ADMINs and G-MODs have every right to deny your character. We don't mean to be elitist jerks, but there should be some level of quality here.
RP samples should be provided in your first character's profile only -- if you make anymore you don't need to include it.
You may not role play canon characters (characters from a book, on TV, in a play [Green from Pokémon Adventures, Gregory House from House, or Elphaba Thropp from Wicked, for example]). Come up with your own creative ideas. If we find out you're role playing a canon character, they will be taken down.
Similarly, you may not say that your characters are related to canon characters in any way, shape, or form.
Similarly again, you may not role play actual people. This is not a celebrity RP, guys. It's a Pokémon RP. You can base a character off of a real person, maybe even yourself (yes, it's been done before), but if it's clearly blatant, forget it.
Your character may never start out with a preset team of Pokémon or items. Ever.
Characters under the age of ten are not allowed.
You can have as many characters as you want, but if it gets to a point where you have tons of them but some or all are inactive, they'll get taken down.
Try to avoid making Mary Sues or Marty Stus. If you have no idea what these are, don't worry about it. You'll run into these terms later if you join up and will be educated thoroughly.
Only ADMINs and G-MODs may accept and review character profiles unless otherwise stated.
Please include a link to all of your characters’ profiles in your signature; be sure to link to your characters in your signature as soon as they are accepted and moved into the Accepted Characters sub-board. Please do not link to your characters' profiles if they haven't been accepted and moved yet. If you have posted your lab thread and have no link to your characters in your signature, a staff member may be extremely liable to edit your signature linking to them for you in the most embarrassing manner possible. You have been warned. If you have a lot of characters and their links can't fit in your signature, PM an ADMIN or G-MOD and one of them will give you a censored word code to put in it using whatever format you fancy.
In Torrenta, a Pokémorph is defined as: -one with Pokémon-like features who may or may not have weak type-associated attacks(1), -one with no Pokémon-like features but can fully shift into the Pokémon that they are a morph of(2). (1): A Pikachu-morph who has red dots on their cheeks, a tail, ears, and can release small electric shocks (2): A Pikachu-morph who can release small electric shocks when they shift into a Pikachu
No legendary or Ditto Pokémorphs.
You are allowed to create humanoid creatures, or something of the sort (werewolves, vampires, mermaids, fairies); if you're confused on what's acceptable or not, you'll know when your character gets reviewed.
In the Role Play
Liquid time is employed here—it enables a member to post in more than one thread at the same time. It means you're able to have multiple threads with the same character at the same time. Awesome.
You must have gotten your starter Pokémon first before role playing anywhere with your character.
When titling a role playing thread you want moderated, you may reserve it for a MOD but not an ADMIN or G-MOD. This doesn't mean you can't have private threads with upper staff members -- it means you can't make a thread that needs a moderator requesting an upper staff member to moderate it in an incredibly subtle attempt to get endangered Pokémon.
Pokémon may not, under any circumstances, be turned into people or Pokémorphs.
Follow the three dodge rule. What does that mean? It means that you may dodge with your Pokémon or your character (if they get into a fight) three times before you have to let the next attack hit. This does not mean that you may constantly dodge three times in a row, though; use common sense when following this rule.
Do not god mode, powerplay, auto-hit, or auto-kill when role playing. In essence, we mean that we don't want you to take control of another person's character. If you want Elise to punch Robert, you should say that Elise threw a punch at Robert, meaning that it is up to Robert's role player whether the punch hits or misses. Also, do not make your character all powerful. Unless you have the owner of the character being god moded's explicit consent may you do any of the above. By the way, this rule is IC only. If someone decides it would be a good idea to cannibalize you in the Cbox, this administrator is not inclined to care.
Please use proper English when role playing IC. It's, "Sally Freaking Fantastic Sue giggled joyfully," not, "*giggles joyfully* That's great!"
Profanity, drugs and sexual themes are a common thing in real life and they're a common thing here. No one will care if your character was (or still is) a prostitute (at least, this administrator won't). Acting out a sex scene is fine as long as it's light description. You'll also get in trouble if you don't put a warning of the content somewhere clearly visible. Not everyone likes seeing that type of thing.
Refrain from the use of one-liners. Try to shoot for a paragraph.
When a thread you were role playing in is finished, please put [F] or [D] or something indicating it's completed in the title so that the staff knows it's over and done with and may be moved to the Archive (or the Messy Drawer, if it's a lab thread).
Do not request a certain Pokémon to appear for your character. The mods will be inclined to give you the exact opposite if you mention anything of the sort.
Pokémon recolors are not allowed. A differing eye color or a small, unique sort of mark is fine, but... a black and red Pikachu? No.
Likewise, Fakémon are also not allowed.
Also regarding this, your characters' Pokémon can be given things to wear or carry. You can even say your character made or bought something for them; it doesn't matter.
You may trade your characters' Pokémon but may not trade within your own characters.
Your character can't encounter or catch legendary Pokémon in their backgrounds. Joe the Dogged Legendary Hunter might see or even interact with one in the role play, but not in his background. Despite his best intentions, he'd be seriously disrupting the balance of nature and would be regarded as an international outlaw if he even managed to catch one. An awesome plot point? Yes. An incredibly rash and otherwise stupid move? Definitely.
Pokémorphs or humans or what have you may not battle Pokémon by themselves and... gain a level. This doesn't mean they can't stupidly throw themselves into a battle to stop it, get caught in a blue and pink blast and then somehow turn to stone and back to fleshy form through the use of magical tears.
...If your character stops a Pokémon battle somehow, no levels will be gained, whether for the Pokémon or for themselves. Sorry, Dogged Marty Ketchum Sue; you're not evolving.
You may have seven Pokémon with you at any one time; the six are for your regular party while the seventh Pokémon is there to serve as a companion for your character. However, if a Pokémon starts a thread as companion, it must still be the companion at the end of the thread. You may not battle with it throughout the thread.
Don't question the blatant lack of regard for Pokémon canon. Just... don't. It's better that way.
Only G-MODs, MODs, TECs, and ADMINs have the power to control wild Pokémon in an RP. Your character can acknowledge Pokémon sounds, spot them, have something ridiculous happen because of them—but you can't control the Pokémon directly and establish them as an acting entity. You'll know when it gets out of hand because someone will tell you and you'll get in trouble. Ha, ha, ha.
Torrenta does not acknowledge natures (Hardy, Impish, Calm, Relaxed). There are only personalities.
When your Pokémon is at a level where it can learn an attack or can evolve, then you may teach it that attack or have it evolve without anyone else's supervision.
Pokémon may only have four moves each.
Visit the boards in order. This means after visiting the Pokémon Lab, go to Route One, then Harku, etc. Unless your character has a train ticket, they walk.
You may still go to the Other Regions of Torrenta while you’re in the Torrenta Region category. You may also post in more than one place in the Other Regions. As an example, let's say Amy Sweet Passion Rose is in the Trainer Lounge and Route Three. She may also go to the Haunted House or Gutix Beach at the same time.
