general rules
these are the rules that effect all parts of the site from a character perspective
+ INFINITE CHARACTERS are allowed. However, if it gets out of hand and you can't keep up with them all, we may ask you to think about who's really active and who's not and cut your losses.
+ PRIORITY GOES to those who do not already have an accepted character. If you are posting your second, third, fourth, etc. character; you will be at the bottom of the line, and will be expected to wait patiently. Critics are busy people, and they WILL get to it as soon as they can. As long as you have a character that you can role-play with currently, please do not complain if it takes a little while for your character to be looked at.
+ A TWO WEEK WAITING PERIOD is now in place for those people with more than three characters already. This means that if you have four or more characters, you must wait two weeks before posting up another character application. Pending characters are also included in this; if you have two characters already accepted, with two pending approval, you must wait an additional two weeks before you can post another application. This is to prevent a flood of new characters from the same members. If there's been a significant amount of time since the last application posted by a member, this waiting period may be waived.
+ SIGNATURES need to be updated as soon as possible after your character is accepted. If your accepted character isn't in your signature when you post a Lab thread or any other thread, the thread may be locked and/or moved without prior warning. To link your character, use this code: To do that: [ url=urlhere ] Character Name [ /url ] without the spaces. It is also advised to include your level average in your signature, though it may be kept in your application if you prefer.
+ ONLY ONE character per application thread, including siblings and twins. The only exception to this would be conjoined twins, but they would also have to share their Pokémon team, items and badges -- they cannot have their own.
+ RESPECT is necessary here, like everywhere else on-site. We do have a minimum level of quality we expect from our applications, and we also need to be sure all of our rules are being met. Please respect those who critique your applications as they are not out to get you. That being said, if we request something be changed in your application, we do expect it to get changed before approval can happen.
+ DO NOT edit the first post of your app after it has been accepted. Any changes to characters after they have been approved need to be run past Ustaff before being made, and we cannot tell if this has happened if you edit the first post of your app. If you feel you must keep some information in the first post of your app you MUST tell Ustaff of this first, but if you do this all original information MUST stay in the app.
+ POKEMON AND ITEMS are to be listed in subsequent posts of your application for ease of staff finding them. Please do not list them in the first post of the application itself but instead in a post or posts (whichever you like) after it. This can be done in posts after your acceptance or in placeholder ones before it (again whichever you like). Feel free to look at already accepted profiles for ideas of layout!creating your character rules
these are the rules that you should follow when creating your character
+ THE MINIMUM AGE of all characters is 10 years old, following the anime guideline of when children are first allowed to get their starter Pokémon. There is no maximum age for characters, as long as it makes logical sense. We do require that a character's exact age is stated, regardless of whether the character itself knows it.
+ CLASS AND AFFILIATION information must be included in all profiles, including those of characters who have already been accepted and those who are being reposted. Both class and affiliation can be changed later on, through IC development showing the reason for the change. Only one class/affiliation may be chosen at a time, unless your character has beaten the Torrenta E4.
+ RANGER AND GENETIC CHARACTERS have their own specific place where they go to receive their starter Pokémon. The rangers hand out their starters from their HQ, whereas Team Genetic has their own lab hidden inside an abandoned warehouse. Please be aware of the joining regulations for each affiliation when writing your character.
+ TEAM GENETIC'S laboratory is hidden from the general public, because of their questionable research methods. This means that all new characters who are joining Team Genetic must have met an existing member in their history, to both learn the location of the lab and the secret knock to get in.
+ COORDINATORS must register at the Coordinator's Guild in Nurjak City after receiving their starter. This is where you will keep track of their scores from contests, and which ribbons they have won.
+ THE APPEARANCE is required to have a written physical description; just using a picture isn't enough. Eye and hair colour, and numerical height and weight must be included in the appearance somewhere. Natural colours and dimensions are preferred for Non-Pokèmorph characters, though hair dye and contact lenses are allowed. If you do decide to use an image from an anime or manga, please include the name of both the character and the anime/manga where it originates. If you don't know where it came from, make a note of that as well. Remember, however, we do not have an official face claim so someone else may be using the same character as a play-by. You must also credit any art used in your profile, even if you are crediting yourself.
+ PERFECT CHARACTERS do not exist in real life, so we don't want to see any perfect characters here. Every character should have personality faults of some sort. Remember, nobody will be liked by everyone they meet, regardless of how nice they are, and everybody will have had some hardship in their life. On the other extreme, we also don't want to see any characters who only have flaws, or who are hated by everyone for no discernible reason. Balance is important, even for predominantly good or evil characters.
+ CONJOINED TWINS have an increased word count requirement for their personality, as there are two distinct personalities as opposed to one. We require each personality to meet the 150 word minimum.
+ MAJOR PSYCHOLOGICAL, PHYSIOLOGICAL, AND GENETIC DISORDERS are not accepted easily here. Because of how difficult they are to portray, and how offense can be taken when they're played incorrectly, we have decided to avoid the hassle and drama and simply not allow them. Some exceptions may be allowed, but only for seasoned members, and only with admin approval. A member's first character may not have any psychological disorders, period.
+ REAL WORLD COUNTRIES, such as the United States or Great Britain, do not exist in our IC world. However, your character may know languages or cultural traits from the real world.
+ CHARACTERS may come from any canon Pokémon region, such as Kanto or Hoenn, but they may also come from a made-up region or Torrenta itself. However all characters, even those from Torrenta, must start at the lab. Please be aware that canon characters do not exist on this site, so your character cannot have met any of the canon Gym Leaders, or Ash.
+ LEGENDARY POKÉMON are meant to be things of legend and are rarely seen by humans. Therefore, your character cannot have met any legendary Pokémon in their history, whether they recognized it or not. Characters can, however, believe they met a legendary Pokémon as long as it never actually happened. If that is the case, please make sure that it is clear in the application.
+ PRE-SET items or teams are strictly forbidden. Your character can have had Pokémon in the past, but they must be left behind before starting on a journey. A character can bring a partner Pokemon from another region, provided it is level 5 and fits within our rules, but they must still visit the lab to register their Pokemon. Returning characters can keep all their old Pokemon and items, provided they are listed before the character is reaccepted.
+ THE RP SAMPLE is only required for people who have yet to have a character accepted. The sample is meant to gauge your ability to follow the site's rules. We now require you to write your lab post as your sample, then use it again later. Remember what lab your character would go to, based on affiliation, and please take a look at the descriptions of the lab boards.
+ AVOID USING NPCS in your sample, especially those who play a significant role in the thread. Minor occurrences are okay, such as mentioning that someone pointed your character towards the lab, provided there is minimal or no dialogue. Spawning wild Pokémon to interact with is strictly forbidden, as that is the mod's job.
+ TECHNOLOGY, SCHOOLING, AND VEHICLES do not really exist in Torrenta. The PDA given at the lab can do just about anything one needs, from translating Pokemon speak to functioning as a Pokedex/calculator/what have you, but it is the most technologically advanced item in the region. A school system does not yet exist in the region, meaning children born here are taught by their parents or learn through other means. Vehicles are incredibly rare here, usually only owned by the rich or those who have brought them from another region, which would be difficult.
+ ARRIVING IN TORRENTA is usually done via the ferry. It is possible that characters capable of long distance flight/swimming could travel here through those means (Pokemorphs for example) but otherwise the boat is the usual means.pokemorph rules
these are the rules are for those who are creating pokemorphs
+ THREE TYPES of Pokémorphs exist on Torrenta. They can be defined as follows:TYPE A: A humanoid shape that has features of a Pokémon. They could have oddly colored skin, Pokémon ears or tails, or various other features. This is what most people typically consider anthro or Gijinka.+ EACH POKÉMORPH'S TYPE should be listed somewhere in their appearance, along with their species. For Types A and C, you should also describe what Pokémon features they do have. If, with Types B and C, their Pokémon form is significantly different than a regular Pokémon of that species, this should also be described.
TYPE B: This is a type that looks 100% human in outward appearance, but they can morph into their related Pokémon. Some people may call these shapeshifters.
TYPE C: A mix of Type A and Type B; they are both anthro and shapeshifters at the same time.
+ POKÉMORPH ATTACKS are incredibly weak. For instance, a Pikachu morph would only be able to let out a small jolt of electricity -- strong enough to sting but otherwise does no damage. Pokémorph attacks have roughly 1/20th of the power that the move would have from a Pokémon. Like Pokémon, Pokémorphs can only know up to four attacks, and these should only be in their level up moves. Egg moves can also be known, but only if one of the parents has the move in question, and was able to learn it naturally. If you choose to give your morph attacks, you must describe what they do in a roleplay setting. For example, stating that Ember is used to create sparks that have can make mild burns or a sunburn-like effect. This is to ensure they moves are not roleplayed as stronger than they should be and that we know you understand their limitations.
+ DITTO MORPHS are special. When creating a Ditto morph, you must agree to the concept that Ditto morphs can only transform into people, objects and Pokémon that it has actually seen in person on Torrenta. This means that if you want your Ditto morph to be able to morph into Arceus, you need to provide proof that they have seen Arceus on-site.
+ LEGENDARY MORPHS are not allowed. All the Pokémon that we consider Legendary are included in the Endangered Species list. Shiny morphs are allowed, however.
+ POKÉMORPHS CAN ORIGINATE in a variety of different ways. The four most common are natural birth, genetic experimentation, possession by ghost-types or by use of the Torrenta-exclusive morph potions. There are other possibilities but you must discuss these with a member of UStaff and get approval first.
+ NATURAL BIRTH is when a character is born as a Pokémorph. They can be born to two Pokémorphs, a human and a Pokémorph, or even two humans, provided that there was a Pokémorph somewhere in the character's ancestry. The species of a natural Pokémorph must be the same evolutionary line as one of its ancestors. This means, if you want to make a Meowth morph, one ancestor must be a Meowth or Persian morph.
+ EEVEE MORPHS, along with the Eevee evolutions, are also a bit special due to Eevee's unique evolution pattern. Any Eeveelution morph is possible as long as there is an Eevee or Eeveelution morph somewhere in their ancestry. This means that an Umbreon morph could have an Espeon father.
+ POKÉMORPH EVOLUTION does not occur naturally. The only way for a Pokémorph to evolve is by use of a Pokémorph potion. These potions can also be used to "devolve" a Pokémorph to a lower evolution.
+ CHANGING SPECIES entirely requires two morphing potions: first, the one to revert back to human, then a second to turn into a new Pokémorph.supernatural rules
these are the rules are for those who are creating supernatural characters
+ SUPERNATURAL CHARACTERS are creatures that, while not quite human, have no ties to Pokémon blood. Creatures such as vampires, mermaids or centaurs are all considered supernatural.
+ WE REQUIRE you to have earned at least 1 badge in your time on Torrenta before you can make a supernatural. It doesn't matter if the character who earned it has since been deleted, as long as the badge had been earned at some point.
+ THE SPECIFIC DESIGN of your character is up to you. Since these creatures do not exist IRL, and are only the subjects of stories and myths, you are free to make alterations to the species design as you see fit.
+ REJECTION MAY OCCUR if we deem that your supernatural character is too powerful. Godmoding and powerplaying rules still apply to supernatural characters, so please be mindful when creating them.
+ USTAFF APPROVAL is needed before you create a supernatural character, especially in the cases when you wish to change an existing human or Pokémorph character into a supernatural. This is to both make sure the supernatural isn't too overpowered and to ensure the method that they became a supernatural isn't too illogical for Torrenta. If we find cases of supernatural characters that did not receive our approval, appropriate action will be taken. Please send your supernatural character app to Knucks and Echo once you have completed it.[blockquote]
